    Default Making it longer

I would appreciate your suggestions for making 'Autumn in the Southwest' longer. I love this pattern and have made it before but I want to make the king size and want to add 4-6 inches in the length. I can add a border to it, but I'm hoping someone can think of something else. It is the first pattern in the list under Free Patterns in the left sidebar. www.carterquilter.wordpress.com

That's pretty! Thanks for the link!
I think I would just add two more rows of blocks before adding the border blocks, then just make all the side borders longer. That should keep the inner side borders/corners the same shape...just extended in length. You would have to add 2 rows, not 1, to keep the same design running vertical along the sides. You could do it almost as a row by row, inserting 2 rows across the center.

How big is each box? I think I'd do as mindless says and just add another row of blocks and then put the borders on.

The blocks are 9.5", and you would need to add 2 rows, so that would be way too much. Her pattern has no borders, so I would just add an additional 3" of background fabric all the way around. It will also make it 6" wider, but this would preserve the symmetry. I would use one of the darker colors for the binding.

I would add an extra 3.5" to the stripes when cutting, just for the top and bottom sections, to give you a 6" longer quilt.
Or you could add a border of prairie points/ fl geese/ hsts - or just red/green strips.

I have to agree with PaperPrincess also and put an additional border around the quilt, as it would be the easiest and fastest thing to do and not take away from the design. Your link was saved by me for some of Cindy Carters patterns on scrappy quilts.....love some of them!
