I think for some people the cutting is difficult. I personally don't have a problem with cutting, but do find that I can get a wider variety of prints for less money than I would pay buying 1/4 yd of 40 different ones.

There are actually quite a few postings lately where members confirm that they are having a hard time cutting straight. Some have hand issues, some have trouble putting enough pressure on the ruler and other have slippage problems. So in the era of easy access, someone precuts the strips and shapes and pieces.

you not only can do strip quilts, you can cut squares, triagles and other shapes from those 2 1/2 inch stips. i love the repro fabrics from the 30's and bought a jelly roll of them. i made a really pretty quilt with a white background. i did buy some yardage for a border and binding. it's a favorite of mine.
