Default Need Help with black fabric bleeding

I purchased a FQ of black Halloween fabric and soaked it for awhile and washed gently in my laundry sink and it is still leaving water with black dye. I have seen ideas on this QB for some product used to stop the bleeding of fabrics but I can't remember the name of it. Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

The product I've used is Synthrapol. Good stuff.
Good luck- I've never had black bleed but I haven't used black much in my quilting.

Retayne is a dye fixative, but you're supposed to use it before you wash the fabric for the first time. https://www.dharmatrading.com/chemicals/retayne.html

Synthrapol doesn't make the bleeding stop, but it helps keep it from adhering to other things in the wash.

If you've already washed in hot water several times and it still bleeds, it's probably best to throw it away. You're lucky that it's a FQ, rather than yards and yards of fabric.

I use the color catchers in the laundry.

Put it in a sink full of very hot water (140°) with a dab of Dawn and leave it there overnight. If it still bleeds after that, I'd toss it.

I've had good luck with Retayne...even after several wash.
Now I wash all my dark fabrics with it.

I agree with all the 'toss it if it still bleeds' crowd. I washed a dark batik with Color Catchers...many times! They went from navy to medium blue. I should have kept going as it dumped blue dye on some whites. My son thought it was SUPPOSED to look like that. Whew!

Thank you everyone-I think "toss it" is a good idea. Loved the fabric but don't want to put it in a quilt and have a disaster when I wash the whole quilt (when it is done.) Appreciate all of the input and I think it is unanimous to throw away.

I would try a fixative before I toss it
