    Default Need a quick answer

I have a church quilt, done by several people, to quilt on my longarm. The seams are impossible to press flat or even open and there was a lot of 'making it fit' happening. I have promised to quilt it for the group. I'm wondering what batting will work best to help make this look good and be easier to quilt on. Anyone with any thoughts?
    Thanks for your help ladies.

I'd try blocking it -- ideally with steam -- and see if that can get it to lay flatter. Then I'd go with a poly batt if it's a wall quilt or a poly cotton blend if it's a bed quilt (unless it's a child's bed quilt in which case I'd go with Warm & Plush). My thinking is that a higher loft batting will help hide some of the piecing issues & then you'll have to be creative when quilting it, too.

I would use a fluffy batt and an open all over quilting pattern.

That is a real tough question. I wish you the best of luck.

Did you square the quilt before you added the boarders? if you are going to take them off I would check that.

As an additional idea - have you tried flattening the bulky seam areas with a mallet and board?

Hobbs Polydown is a great batting for quilts that will get a lot of hard use. It machine quilts beautifully and has just enough loft to help hide imperfections. We use it for all of our Community quilts.

I would use poly cotton to hide some of the lumps they do a free motion deco style pattern.
