This is how I have always done it. I have never pressed or drawn the diagonal line. I line it up with my tape, which has long since worn off my machine bed but I still have the residue of color.

Lucy90 - great picture. Yes, it does look nice. I love the beautiful blue pattern for your snowball. Your own design, not like any other in the world. Love quilting so that we can all make "minor" mistakes and still figure out a way for it to look terrific and no one would ever know!!! You did a wonderful job!
