I'm getting ready to quilt a square in a square quilt.
Each block is about 7" (6" center + 1" border).

Every block has a twin, so this is a concentration game toddler quilt.

I want to straight line stitch in each border, and quilt a puppy-related design from each print ( paw print, doggy bone, face and ears, etc).

Starting from the center of the quilt, what is the best order! All frames first, then go back and do centers , or complete one block at a time?

If you SID the straight lines, then nothing will shift in the centers.

Ditch sewing on straight lines beginning in the centre and making sure you are not working all in the same direction.eg one top to bottom next bottom to top. This stops movement one way.

If I were hand quilting, I would quilt the quilt evenly and do all the frames first. When quilting by machine, I always work in quadrants, rearranging the quilt so that I'm always in the lower right quadrant. In that case, I'd work down and out from the center in whatever way required me to stop and reposition the least number of times.

Baste the quilt, then nothing will shift, and quilt any way you want

I start from the center and work toward the part of the quilt that is rolled up to move thru the throat. Then I turn the quilt around, roll up the unquilted half of the quilt and do the same steps.

^ what she said (also, be sure that when you're basting you also work from the center out)

Thanks, everyone. I forgot to say I had pin basted it. I have almost finished the straight stitching, and am eager to start the center designs.
