How do you get the fold marks out of batting that you buy in a package? Or does it matter when you smooth it out if there are slight fold marks? I want to start pin basting now. Usually I am not in such a hurry but you know, Christmas is coming and won't Santa be upset with me if I don't get this quilted before the big day?

I spritz the batting with water from an old windex bottle that became my spritzer. Very lightly and then I put 4 wet wash clothes and my 6 woolie balls and put it all in the dryer on low. Run it for 10 minutes, open the dryer, shake out the batting and throw everything back in the dryer for another 10 minutes at low and then take the batting out and lay it out or hang it on my clothesline in the garage. It works for me because I always wash all my fabrics before I quilt them and then every thing has been dried including the batting, the backing and the fabric. My choice.

I use Hobbs 80/20 packaged batt and I don't have any trouble smoothing it out. If you have really bad creases, you may try opening it and tumbling it in the dryer for a few minutes.

Doesn't matter, just smooth it out. The creases won't show once its quilted.

I put it in the dryer with a small wet towel. I find it's a lot easier to work with if it's nice and smooth.

I drape it over my frame overnight.

If it is cotton batting, I often wash batting in the washer, no soap, gentle cycle. Then dry in the dryer on hot. Take it out immediately and it is smooth. This minimized crinkling in the finished quilt as it pre shrinks the batting. Otherwise like others I just run it through the dryer for a bit with a damp item.

Unless your batt is poly or cotton w/scrim I would not wash. Spritz with water and toss in the dryer for a few and you should be fine. I have a roll of W&N that I don't bother with this step - just smooth and go but it's only one crease in the center. I also clamp my layers after smoothing so no wrinkles when I pin/thread baste.
