When you are looking for a new quilt to make and are checking out magazines or quilt books, is it the pattern or the colors that that are used that catch your eye? I'm sure we all have made quilts that our color choice does nothing for the pattern.

I look for pattern and value.

And if you don't get the value right, it's irrelevant what the pattern and colors choices are because you've got mush.
Unless that's the look you were going for. ;-)

I don't think I can look at just one......but I give pattern the edge.

Pattern always as I have yet to repeat the fabric or even colors used in a pictured quilt.

usually the color catches my eye first. But I always go back through the magazine or book and look at the patterns better when I'm ready to choose a new project. Because, you're right - your color choices can make or break a quilt.

Usually the color catches my eye, but I try to develop my own color combination and not copy the pattern. Sometimes it works and I like it better than the pattern. Sometimes not. I find myself drawn to the same colors over and over. I try to work with something different.
