I am on my second try at the Marvelous Maze Quilt and Table Runner pattern from Timeless Treasures, designed by Osie Lebowitz. For the second time, I cannot get the maze lines to line up, the corners of the maze are fine but not the straight lines. I am frustrated - pieces measure exactly, quarter inch seam is in place, still off by about half an inch!

Has anyone else made this pattern? Did you have trouble and figure out a way to make it work? Any help would be appreciated.

Not that this will help, but I have printed free patterns offline and found mistakes in their measurements when I tried to put a block together. I am sure this is not the problem if you bought this pattern. Maybe someone on here can help you.

I learned a lot about how the narrow strips are suppose to line up when making the lattice quilt. Just sewing on the strips won't work. I don't know how the pattern instructs you to make sew the strips but watch Jenny Doan's tutorial about narrow strips sewn in the block. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QNUkLoGQY8

If using unwashed fabrics - sometimes they shrink when they are steam pressed, or when they are starched and pressed.

The only thing I can think of - you aren't getting them completely symmetrical when cutting/trimming.

I've not made this, but it looks fun! I'd start with assorted squares of fabric, then cut off the apposing corners (exactly same measure, making sure cuts are parallel and perpendicular to center) Then sew a narrow strip on the center block, and then reattach the two cut off corners. then trim using the center piece corners to square up.

If they end up not lining up - the square may not have been "square" at the start, so when cut and trimmed things don't line up, or, the cuts were not both perpendicular to the center, and parallel to each other.

Have you considered redrafting the pattern and using "exact sized" pieces instead of using a cutting down method?

It still is helpful to match the centers of the pieces like Jenny Doan did in that video.

I would make a paper piece pattern and copies of that to use.

It's a pretty big block - I think it is 10.5" unfinished.

There is a folded paper piecing method (can't think of the proper name of it) where people do use paper, but do not stitch on the lines - that might also work.

If it were me, I would just look for a different pattern. Quilting is not suppose to be irritating. I would find that irritating.
