    Default Piano key border

Hi all....does anyone have ideas for piano key border made from the scraps from the finished quilt. I have some strips and some odds and ends left. Cut them all into same size strips? What width. ? Thanks.....or any other border using odd pieces.

no quilt police ....same size ---different size -- i lots of time use the left over binding [2 1/2] for piano keys on a scrappy quilt and 2 1/2 to 3 inch size works out good for quilting

Bonnie Hunter has added her Garlic Knot pattern to her shop. The piano key like border she put on it has great movement. It would be pretty simple to do something similar by just looking at the picture. It is at her site www.quiltville.blogspot.ca

I cut my scraps into the same width and the longest length I can. Then I make strip sets and cut them into the width I want for my border. Then sew those with any shorter pieces until my border is long enough.

recently made a scrappy one with strips from 1.5 to 2.5". Doing that made adjusting for the size of the quilt very easy.

I had a lot of leftover fabric from this quilt (used mostly fat quarters) so I came up with this for a border. The outer points of the hourglass blocks were sewn as part of the border, so it was relatively easy.

I have put piano key borders on alot of my quilts and it just varies as to what size I use. I have a picture of one on this QB and I used white and gold I think. But I have also used alot of the fabrics I have left over from making the quilt. I think my keys were 1 1/2" width by 3 1/2" length. Love the piano key border and it uses up alot of fabrics.

Forgot to say that the sizes are finished sizes so just add 1/2" to each length and width.
