Haven't seen this question asked (and answered) in any of the Hexie threads that have been here lately. After making the hexie do you press each one with a dry iron with the paper still in it, or do you wait until you have a bunch sewn together, take the paper out and then press them? Or does it even matter?

I never iron them. Don't see the need. That is my opinion. We are all different.

Everyone has their own method. Because I reuse my papers I do a quick press with dry iron, remove papers and spritz with best press and press again. This keeps my bias edges nice and crisp when I go to stitch them to other hexies. Others leave the papers in until finished. Personal preference.

What kind of papers do you use? I have been cutting them from copy/printer paper. Thanks for any ideas or techniques.

I press them with the papers in, put a flower together take out the middle. put the whole flower together.
when all sides are sewn, ie. have a piece sewn to it so there are no edges hanging , I pull out papers.

someone here had a great idea, and I just got it at Michaels with my joanns 50% was to go to the scrapbooking section and buy the punch for the hex. I got the middle size, I think it's 3/4". I have my dh bring me home a few file folders from work and make my own. it turns out much cheaper.

When I did a tumbling block quilt via epp, I used manilla file folders for my papers. Worked great as they could be re-used with no problem. I don't recall pressing at all.

I starch and dry iron mine several times during the "flower" assembly process, just because I like to see them nice and crisp edges.

I use card stock. I used a lot when I was teaching and had some left over. Found templates for the size I wanted online and printed the hexies out on my printer. Had printing on one side so thus I recycled. I also have bought from paperpieces.com.

Here's one project, 2 inches on a side, my current one is much smaller hexies, 1/2 inch on a side.
