I plan to mark a grid over the entire top of a quilt before adding the French Roses. I will be scattering the raw-edge roses rather than within a block. (This quilt is for a GGD who is blind and autistic. I want her to feel the texture of the roses.)

My question: when stitching from edge to edge, should I stitch one line, turn and stitch in the opposite direction Or should all stitching begin on the same edge and end on the same edge?

Anyone have any experience on doing this? I welcome some input. Thanks.

I begin on the same edge working from the halfway point towards the right. Then turn the quilt and do the other half of the quilt. This way you have no more than half the quilt under your machine at a time

​Any time a line crosses over another, that can be a potential crease spot. Are you doing the squares on spot or straight?

When I grid stitch I start on one edge, get to the other edge, then go from that edge, etc.

This is what I do too. This also can prevent any curving outwards of your lines.

I start the grid on the edge of the middle quilt line and go edge to edge. Then I finish one side, turn and start on the other side. Same with the opposite grid lines. I use a Straight Edge ruler for marking my lines (bought at Lowe's) it's 2 1/2 inch wide metal ruler and comes in various sizes. I have the 4 ft and 6 ft. The longest one is only $12. My smallest quilt ruler cost that much. LOL
