Question for the Mug Rug and Pot Holder experts

I went to Union Mission today and found some really nice "fabric swatches", the large books with 12 x 12 swatches. My question is, do you think this would work for making Mug Rugs and/or pot holders?? The patterns were really beautiful!! What do you think, of course they are not 100% cotton. I am now quilting on a budget and looking for ways to save money.

The flowers were so bold and vivid, I thought...I could make the ladies at work some mug rugs for their desk as Christmas gifts!! So for only .25 for each book of swatches,,,I dived in!!

k, I did notice that each of them had the fabric content on them.

if they are not cotton- or other natural fiber i would not use them for pot-holders- they might melt and burn someone.
if they are natural fibers=so won't melt- then they would be fine-
other things you can make with fabric swatches if they are (weighty) is totebags/purses
placemats, candle mats

Thanks for the ideas, I plan to make a few things are Christmas gifts. I will scratch the pot holder idea and go with the mugrugs, placemats and candle mats instead.
