    Default Quick Hexagon Question

I ordered the Sizzix 1.5 hexagon die. Should my paper piece be 1" or smaller?

    Thank you.

Do you know if the 1.5 is the side measurement or width of hexie? Even tho I always go by length of a side of a hexie, everyone doesn't and it makes a BIG difference as to which you are talking about.

No it should be at least 1.5 . The sides of each part of the hex will b .75. I've run into problems bc truly 1.50 is the diameter. I would cut a bit more than 1.5 to get a good cut. I'm working on grandmother's flower garden. The hexagon has a mystical background. It used to be thought of as having special powers. Ie I'm gonna put a hex on you.

Oppose . I see new info. If it's 1.5 on sides you will need 3inches all the way around. If u wanted a finished Inch and a half u would have needed a .75.

You will need 2.5 inches. Sizzex does have a 1.5 hex die with with 6 hexagons on one die. It's number 658316 if your wanting 1.5 .

Are you using the die to cut your fabric and something else for your papers? The reason I ask is because I am making a Hexie quilt using 1" Hexie papers and it takes a 2.5" square of fabric to cover it and fold over to the back. . .

Thank you. Let me see if I got this.

    1. If the 1.25 hexie is fabric should the paper template be .75?
    2. If the 1.25 is the paper template, what size should fabric be? (I think seemssew answered this 2.5)

    Thanks so much

I just did a quick google search and this website says your fabric should be 1/4 to 1/2" larger ALL around than you papers. So, if you are using the 1.25 sizzix die to cut your fabric, subtract 1/4-1/2" from all sides and that will tell you what size your papers should be. If you are using the sizzix die to cut you papers, add 1/4-1/2" to all sides to get the size to cut your fabric.

I hope I don't confuse you. If u r using the die for paper your fabric hexagons needs to be half an inch bigger hex. If u r using the hex die for fabric your paper die cuts should be a half inch less. That gives u a quarter inch difference all the way around. I am doing mine by hand. I wish my acc u quilt hex die was just a tad bigger. I purchase the sizzex nesting hex set but haven't used them yet bc I'm using the sizzex 6 hex cutter for my templets. Also using a glue stick on two opposite sides for anchoring while getting the fabric stitched around the paper is a life saver. .
