Default RJR Petal Play- help needed

Our local quilt shop had this quilt kit half off. The fabrics are beautiful and I brought it home. I have a question. Are the dresdens meant to be made traditionally and joined or just sewn together and appliqued? Not enough direction for me.

I think this is correct. The template has the seam allowance shown, so I think they're meant to be sewn together first, then appliqued.

lt's pretty clear in instructions to sew the pices together for the quarter dresdan, then applique to bg fabric. However, if you plan on using machine satin ( zigzag ) st to do the applique rather than turning under the edges, you will need to trim off the outer seam allowance.
You mention purchasing this at lqs,; it's an ''intermediate'' pattern...l'm sure the shop staff would be more than happy to assist you if you're having problems.

Thanks for the help. I have made a Dresden before. The points were made from a straight cut. I didn't make myself clear. I was asking about the points. I will just make the plates the way I know how.

That is your best bet. I too prefer the method where the edge of the plate template is a straight cut and you make a seam to form a pocket and turn them out. Much like Tartan describes in her tutorial here:

But before you commit, make sure you have enough fabric in the kit to change your template for the plate blades. I suspect you will but better to be safe.
