I had real machine envy every time I saw someone's featherweight. My great aunt in Canada showed off her beautiful machine and the ladies in my quilting bee would bring theirs for piecing. Jealous!

Last night I searched "featherweight" on the Annapolis Craigslist and had a hit, which rarely happens. Turned out there was an estate sale listing for 4-16 (today!) with "Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine" listed as one of the items being sold. No other information.

I was intrigued. Took my breakfast/lunch hour to rush down there and arrive right at the beginning of the sale. When I saw the $195 price sticker on the nicely kept black carrying case, I knew she would be mine. She seemed to work and I wrote them a check. Score!

Haven't gotten to investigate her yet, but I'm taking her down to a LQS for a bit of help in identifying feet and the like. She doesn't have a manual but she comes with various feet, bobbins, and a few other things.

I think I'm going to name her Anise. Pictures to come eventually! I'm just so excited.

How much fun was that? That was worth
loosing a meal over. Hope you post
pictures and tell us about your
    investigation into the gadgets.

Welcome to the club. I know you will love her.

I bought Nancy Johnson-Sebro's book Featherweight 221 The perfect portable even before I got my machine, well the night before to be exact!!

I used it a lot, it has great basic and some advanced info. Good diagrams and I think she's got a new edition out by now. It'a bit cheaper then some of the other recommended books, but was a great starting place.

Absolutely worth losing a meal over! I'd actually made myself a sandwich the night before in prep and ate it a couple of hours later when I could catch a moment.

I'm just calling her an early birthday present for myself. ;) I'll be 24 on the 20th.

Edit: I'll have to check out that book, thank you!

Congratulations - your estate sales and yard sales seem to yield great bargains compared to what I had to pay on ebay.

You can download the manual here:

    http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html

This book referenced above, Nancy Johnson-Sebro's book Featherweight 221 The perfect portable, is a great book to have. I was doing something as simple as cleaning out the lint under the needle plate and couldn't get it working again. Luckily, I had the book and got it fixed in no time. It's worth every penny! Check Amazon, I think I paid under $20 for the book.

Congratulations. I'd say it was definitely worth missing lunch for. You should be able to find a manual to download.
