    Default Scrappy QAYG started

Well the first of my grandchildrens' chevron quilts is completed, washed, labelled and waiting to be delivered and before I start the next one I decided to have a bit of a spell and get on with my scrappy quilt now that I have my strips, backing squares and left over batting all cut out and the old Janome is sitting in its' cabinet looking wistfully at me! Thought I would "do" each of the squares with a central black strip and then use black for the thin joining strips. The black strips in the photos are a bit thick; I intend to thin them...what do you think...what width would you cut the joining strips to?

It is going to be beautiful personally I like narrow sashing finishing 1" to 1 1/2" It's a matter of personal taste I think.

I have done a few quilts like yours, and I use the same width for the sashing as the diagonal strip on the blocks. When you do that, the whole quilt looks like it is set on point. On my picture you will see the red strip used as the center of the block and also for the sashing. I used a black strip on either side of the center strip and then scraps.

I would go with the same size as the black diagonal strips also. Looks great!

Correction to my post -- there is no sashing! However, there is a red inner border before the larger outer border.
Sorry -- I must have been asleep when I posted this morning. I could have used sashing, but the "on point" effect would have been lost.

I agree with helou - 1/1/2" sashing & border. Binding in the backing fabric.

I'm glad you clarified that. I was having a time trying to figure out the sashing. LOL
And your quilt is stunning. I love the borders, too. They go so well with what's in the quilt.
