Oh wow...honestly it was a BAD location -- it was too far from both 288 and 59 to be an easy drive. I also can't say they did much advertising at least up through the end of this last summer.

I don't think it was a bad location, there are a number of good quilt shops around Houston that aren't in the best locations or near freeways. If you have a GOOD shop, quilters will find you!! There are lots of quilters, bees & a guild in the area plus the Sugar Land-Missouri City area is more than 200,000 in population - they should NOT have been lacking for customers ...
IMO it was the employees they had the first 2 years, that didn't help their chances at all. The owner finally replaced the staff last year, but too little, too late ... All the quilters I know decided to shop elsewhere. I live less than 2 mi away, but it was last on my list of places to go. It wasn't really a quilt shop, more of a sewing store with emphasis on machines & software; quilting fabric was in the back. Didn't offer a good choice of quilting books or patterns either. They did have nice batiks though

I lived off of Dulles/Lexington from 1996 'til this past summer and can honestly say I never visited it.... I already had loyalties to Joanns, Quilters Emporium and It's a Stitch. And it was a location thing for me because I hated getting on Highway 6! I laugh because for 40 years, I lived within about 3 miles of Highway 6 -- from Manvel/Alvin to College Station and back to MoCity/Sugarland. And to this day, still dislike that road! Especially since the area has grown up so much from farms/ranches to suburbs.

You know the area well then ... yes TOO much suburbia now. We've been here 25 yrs, I remember when I still had to go to SW Houston to shop. First Colony was just starting and Hwy 6 was all ranch land in Missouri City. We'd take our kids to go see the horses there ... now it's nothing but houses and shopping centers, one after another ... :(
