Default sewing machine

I want to purchase a sewing machine for my adult daughter. I want something good quality that will last a lifetime. It doesn't need a lot of fancy embroidery stitches just good basics. What would you recommend?

An old Singer - Featherweight - 301 - anything prior to the 70's, you want all metal parts.

Vintage Bernina 830 Record! (1970s)

All metal. Many stitches for regular home sewing as well as 1/4" and scant 1/4" seams with 5 needle positions. Extension table for larger sewing surface. Knee lift of presser foot for hands-free-for-quilting positioning. Easy open for cleaning and home maintenance of machine. Carrying case for machine as well as case for all feet and tools.

You can find these machines on ebay, craigslist, local sewing dealers, etc. for between $300 and $700; I'd opt for the lower price range, of course, if the machine has all the parts I mentioned and is clean. I have 2 of these; have helped many friends find and love one of these; and have used them in my shop's classes with great results and virtually no damage or problems.

They are classic and desirable!
