    Default T-shirt quilt interim photo

I'm going to swap out at least one block where that arrow is pointing. It was very noticeably different than the rest when I looked through the view finder.

In case you are wondering what in the world is the theme here???? I am making this for some friends of mine who are from and live in Germany. Lars speaks English very well, and he and Betty come here on vacation as often as they can. So, I wanted to make them a quilt with things from California, Sacramento, the US and things that show some aspect of American culture. I work at "America's Seafood Restaurant," and its their favorite restaurant, so I had to have some stuff from RL. Lars is a huuuuge Golden State Warriors fan, so that's why there are so many of their shirts in here. The only thing I really missed out on was the Raiders- they're his favorite football team. I'm going to make a video to go with it, where I point at the squares and explain why I put them in there. For instance, the Los Locos Car Club shirt in the lower right hand corner and the little slice under the bike guy with the woodies on it are because of the car culture that is so much a part of life in California, and especially growing up here as a Baby Boomer.
    What do you think?

Oh, and I'm thinking of quilting it with wavy diagonal lines about 2 or 3 inches apart. What do you think of that idea?

You have a great start on such a generous idea for your friends, and what a great variety of shirts. They are going to love it. I have only done 1 Tshirt quilt, and it was a great challenge to me. Have fun with your project!

I also like your idea of a generic quilting pattern like waves so that it doesn't interfere with the many designs on the shirts, but accomplishes the purpose of holding the thing together.

I know, right? I'm scared to think what the quilting process is going to be like, which is why I chose wavy lines. I figured I could do them pretty easily with the walking foot, and it wouldn't be too much of a nightmare!

Do whatever best represents the recipients. I wouldn’t do a lot of quilting. Here’s the one I just made for my husband. Military theme. I did a subtle sashing and straight line quilting.

I love it! I love the "Feel Safe at Night. Sleep with a Dachshund" I need that shirt! I sleep with 3 and one of them did wake me when we had a possum "intruder" come in thru the doggie door at 3 am!
