I'm in the process of making a tote bag for retreats and shop hops. It calls for Timtex interfacing.

Is there something similar to it? I can't find any in my area.

Yes. I don't remember what it's called, but when I was looking for it, I went to Joann's and asked for it. The employees there sold me a comparable Pellon product.

I usually check on line for supplies not available locally. We do have a few new shops locally that will order special supplies as requested, if needed.

I use craft fuse sometimes you just have to be careful in case of being fusible on both sides. I was making a bag and used it for my connectors which fused it to both sides of the fabric, I couldn't turn it right side out. You just need a really stiff interfacing and you can sew over this product.

If you are only going to use it for the bottom, may I suggest that you use a removable insert? I cover either the stiff interfacing or plastic granny grate (needlepoint sheets) with fabric and then they can be removed to throw the tote in the washer. In a quick pinch, I have just covered cardboard.

I've started using that foam interfacing in place of the stiff stuff. It's sort of like batting, but being foam it helps the bag keep it's shape and stand up on it's own. I really like it. JoAnn's sells it with the interfacing. It's much easier to work with than Timtex or Peltex.
