I have a singer 99-13 sewing machine that I am in the process of restoring. There is a silver knob located (facing the machine) on the right side of the machine where the stitch F/R bar would be located. This knob screws in or out. I have not taken it all the way out for cleaning because I am not sure what will happen if I do.
I have looked through the manual that came with the machine. It shows the knob and even goes so far as to assign it letters (KK) with E5786 also listed. I am wondering if this means for certain models or something. Anyway....even though the knob is acknowledged in the manual it doesn't say what it is for.
Does anyone know what this knob might be for? TIA for any help.

I think it is the stitch length setting screw. Screw it in - smaller stitches. Screw it out - longer stitches. That's the way my mom's old treadle was.

Boy Barb...does that sound logical. I bet you are right. I have had this machine for a couple of years sitting on a shelf using it as part of my decor.
I recently acquired another machine a De Luxe classic. It is in awsome shape. I have been having so much fun sewing on it that it has given me the bug to restore my shelf sitter.
