I have an old 1923 Singer in a cabinet, that's in working condition after having the machine overhauled and the electrical cord replaced by the local sew shop.

But I don't know for what I should use it??? What do you all use your old singers for? (I don't mean the featherweights, I know what those are for!).

What do you all use them for? Quilting straight stitch only? Do they have better stitch quality than the new, computerized machines?

I would say anything. They are tough!

They sew a much nicer seam than any new machine in my books. Nice tight, straight stitch.. Great for FMQ. About the only things I use my Newer machines for is embroidery only. Everything else is done on my Pfaff 7570 or any of ny vintage machines. And they are so much fun...

I use my vintage machines for everything! Honestly all of them could do any of the work it's just I'm a bit anal so I use my Model 27's for garments (except if they need a zig zag stitch!) I use my Model 66 for general use/ light quilting, And I use my 9w for piecing. I use my free westinghouse for repairs. I plan to use my white rotary for what I call 'quick quilts', lap quilts and things I plan to get done in a day. I just got a 201-2, once I get it going it's going to be my free motion quilting machine. I prefer the treadles which is why the motorized machines tend to be given the sparser work. They're all great, several of them are over 100yrs old and All of them are over 60yrs old and still (or soon will) work! I like that they are workhorses and can pierce just about anything and I can fix them myself.
