I'm in a friendship group & we're trying to decide on a project for this year. Someone suggested a technique where you take a picture, enlarge it, slice it into pieces, pass out the pieces of the picture, then each person makes a fabric version of their part of the picture.

What's the name of this technique??

I don't know the name, have tried googling a few things... like slice and dice etc.... I really like them too, so will keep looking.

I had to study that picture and re read how she did it to understand what was going on. I thought What? LOL. It's a great challenge project now that I understand it.

Some years ago I was a member of a group of 8 who did this. After enlarging the picture, a "pattern" is made and then divided among the group along with a colored picture of the project. The fabric pieces were fused down in each section and then the sections were sewn together. We won a first place ribbon at a local quilt show.

i did one years ago with cutting and reassembling. may not be the same but i did this one in a class. even the teacher had trouble. makes me think ricky tims maybe.

Nativetexan the name of your technique is also 'fractured'. But in your case, you used identical pieces of fabric cut at certain points, The first set of strips would be labeled A1, A2 etc. The second set of strips (cut slightly differently) would be labeled B1,B2 etc. Then you sewed them back together A1, B1,A2,B2 etc. I think they may also be recut and resewed horizontally as well.

The 'fractured' picture referred to by the OP is a photo that has been super enlarged and then cut into sections. One section is given to each participant to reproduce using fabric. Then those fabric sections are sewed together.
