    Question Wheelchair quilts

Does anyone have a pattern or size information for making a lap quilt for a wheelchair? I saw one that had a handwarmer incorporated into the top.

I made several for a senior center, made them 40" long and 36" wide.

Thank you for the info. I don't know how useful the handwarmer (sleeve) would be.

You might have been looking at a custom Quillow?? I make them the same dimension as Jeanne S posted.

I found some basic instructions, no pictures. They suggest you cut off the two bottom corners so they don't get caught in the wheels. My grandmother would have loved the pocket as her hands were always cold. http://www.commonthread.on.ca/pdfs/W...structions.PDF

I love making these and I also sew green by using good 100% cotton shirts. On the wheelchair quilts, I make a patch from the shirt pockets and incorporate them into the quilt. I love the ones that button!

Love the idea of pocket as hand warmers. But ask the home to which they will be donated. It seems they all have their favorite sizes.

I also agree with contacting the person or organization about the size.
As far at the handwarming pocket, I would use fleece as it's warm and will not fray. You could attach it to any quilt pattern. This is how I would do it (assuming that it is a lap quilt and the top edge will be at the user's waist). Place pocket fabric on quilt right sides together. Sew the bottom of the pocket, reinforcing the ends. Flip the pocket up, then just catch it in the quilt binding.

Thanks PaperPrincess for the details. Now we all know. I think a hand pocket is a very good idea!
