After years of working in schools and enforcing safety rules with the students, I automatically put on the closed in shoes.
Diabetics should be quite careful of their feet in any case - so there you are - very conventional.

I wear my shoes in my house too. Barely I may go in my socks but I do sew with my shoes on. I make sure I have my comfy tennis shoes on.

Always shoes or slippers with good support bad feet from 20 plus years of walking avg 2 miles a day, and a nurse for 30 plus years.

My new machine has a "go" button up top so it doesn't matter what I wear on my feet. However, I hardly ever wear shoes at home, so barefoot.

Glad you asked this question. I usually am barefoot. I tell people I didn't realize I could cut my foot while quilting. LOL. I was changing the blade in my rotary cutter and it fell on top of my barefoot. Made a little cut on the top of my foot. Live and learn.
