NZ, My brother and I called upon Hospice on behalf of our father and we never regretted it for a moment. They are specialists in care for the individual and the family during the last days of life. They gently taught us how to care for our father, how to make balanced decisions. They encouraged us to let our father eat what he loved for example.Such a simple thing. It is always hard to be witness to the passing of another especially when it is a dear family member but hospice does make it easier, for everyone. I will agree with sewbiz to pray for your family.

I also agree with Hospice. As it's turned out, they have been involved with both my parents and both my In-laws. My MIL had brain cancer and once she needed more powerful pain meds, we could not keep her at home anymore. Both my parents died in their homes, their situations ( Dad had an aneurism, Mom had Parkinson's) was such that adequate care based on their wishes could be provided without them going in. Hospice really helped to know we were providing correct care for them. FIL had been in the hospital and was moved to hospice, but he never regained consciousness so moving him home was never an option.

All the stages of life we have all dealt with - from childbirth to end of life as we know it. All through the years we have needed people to lean on - to reach out to. Sometimes it is on line with you all - and sometimes with family and friends. And hospice is especially a group of people who are there to lean on. I recall when they first came to interview my aunt. They gave her choices on what she wanted. Once she said enough is enough - then they were so caring and informative of the next steps available. Was totally blown away with their organization.

We are currently in Texas. was supposed to register our new to us motorhome but dealer from AZ dropped the ball and didn't mail the title. Can't stick around so they will have to pick up the tab of having it all done! We did get to visit with a friend while here so that was good. Today we are watching the weather as we start to move east.

Thanks for the positive news about Hospice. I have never dealt with them, but it's a huge relief to hear so much good about them! Thank you for the prayers too.

Whoo Hoo!, IrishMom, Thanks for the updated almost final list. Your list and my list agree. Only a few more days until party time!

In our conversation about hospice, I forgot to mention that not every one goes to stay at a hospice facility. My father did not. They did not have an open room for him. When a room was available it wasn't appropriate to move him. Again, hospice staff suggested we just allow him to stay in the environment he knew because it would be more comfortable for him. Bless those folks.
