    Actually the pattern is called "Daisey Delight" by Jennie Rayment. Pattern No. JR 1952. I just thought it looked like a poinsettia. Her pattern photos also shows the flower done in white with yellow centers, and another quilt that has the flowers in assorted sizes (template included for smaller sizes) and done up like black-eyed susans.

    I have just made a Dahlia, I was wondering how to finish it off because as you say "It is not a square" however if you look closely at the cushion you can make it a square by sewing triangles in each second corner which makes it a square!

    I will post mine when I have finished it
