Wow, those are amazing. When I see pictures like that, and the ancient history that comes with them, I can't help but think about the work that went into those mosaics. They did not have the tools and resource we have in our modern day, all those pieces were hand carved, shaped, cut and placed, truly amazing works of art.

I saw some similar things when I visited the "Governors Palace" at Williamsburg in Virginia. There were several places where beautiful inlaid wooden floors caught my eye as perfect quilt patterns. I got caught taking a picture of the floor on one of the landings of a large staircase and was chastised by the guide. (I broke the no photo rule.) But, a quilter just couldn't resist. This just lets us know that what ever inspires us to make geometric patterns in cloth inspires wood workers and architects of stone and tile the same way. Our eyes and our brains just see those patterns and we all must put them in our lives.

These are beautiful works of art that is an understatement. My eyes go directly to the tiles where I see HST's and then the cuts for a DWR! Like everyone else, I see quilts everywhere in these ancient tiles. Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures.

Great pictures and I too will look at tile work or flooring and think what a great quilt I could make out of that pattern.
