    Default Bed Size Minky quilts

I have been making minky throws and bed size Minky quilts for a while.

For a throw I use 2 to 2 1/2 yards of 60" wide Minky for the front and back. I square both pieces up to match and use my serger to seam all sides right side together leaving an opening to turn it inside out. I then stitch the opening close and stitch about 3" away from the edge all around the inside of the throw. This keeps it from moving around on its self. Super easy!

For a bed size quilt I will use 6 yards of Minky for the top and either fleece or flannel for the back. The purple minky in the pictures below was seamed in the middle. I would recommend that you divide one of the 3 yards in half and piece it to the sides. I have done that with all of them but this one. I wasn't thinking that day I guess. There is no batting in this quilt only the fleece on the back.

The animal print quilt with my dog Penny on it has flannel on the back and a thin poly batting in the middle. This quilt is super soft and warm for the winter. (forgive the dog pictures, but that was all I had)

The purple Minky was quilted on my longarm using a computerized pattern(s). The animal print was made before I had a longarm and only has straight lines going horizontally through the quilt about every 5". This is also how I did the other two I made for my niece and nephew which I quilted on the longarm.

The binding on the quilts is a little different. I wish I had a picture. I added a 6" piece of Minky folded in half to the top of the quilt and then binded the sides and bottom like you would normally. I wanted the softness of the minky next to the persons neck.

I know this is long but thought someone might be interested. Let me know if you have questions.
By the way these two quilts in the picture are king size!

No wonder they like them. They look extremely comfortable. I like them too. Dogs, that is. I love your quilts too.

That is gorgeous. I was impressed with how you managed sewing the minky together on the top (it can be slippery) and then I saw the quilting – wow!
