yep, it would. I have several colors of Pigma micron pens .05 size for signature blocks I used to do. I use them for things like this.

I don't think that you are crazy at all. I think that it looks much better. It would bug the heck out of me too!

And I thought I was breaking rules. LOL. I used a black fabric marker to draw in tiny details on appliqued pcs.

Like a few others here I splashed just a few drops of bleach, this time on my good Christmas top: black velvet-like fabric with beautiful embroidered pictures on it. (That's what happens when you anticipate Monday morning washing by putting things to soak on Sunday night.) So I used the Sharpies, which covers it up....until I wash it a few times. Then it looks kind of gray. So I have to renew the Sharpie every year when I want to wear the top.

Of course if you got some black Sharpie on white, it would never wash out! LOL Murphy's law!

I've heard of and used that method as well.

I think you made a wise decision, as the stitches really showed in the first picture. You are in good company, I once heard Alex Anderson tell a guest quilter that she had done the exact same thing.

I have a whole collection of different colored sharpies and have used them many times. Even if the color isn't exact, it still makes it less noticeable.
