    Default Butterfly Painting/Quilting Workshop Fun

It have had the pleasure of doing 2 workshops this week with the delightful Australian award winning quilter Helen Godden. The first one day workshop was Liberation from the Ditch, learning free motion quilting.I have been quilting for nearly 40 years but u til this week had never been able to do free motion quilting. I have to say at the end of the one day workshop, I wasn’t too confident I would be able to quilt this way. ..then I embarked on a 2 day workshop called Flying into Colours. Oh my goodness, how much fun I had ! The first day we painted our gorgeous design, I chose a butterfly. We learned how to blend paints and so much more. Day 2 and it was time to add the free motion quilting. At first, I was a little wary but then the brain clicked into gear and it all came together. What a fantastic feeling. After most of the quilting was done, then we had an opportunity to add some back painting to our ‘masterpiece.
Needless to say, I came home with paints and a huge amount of enthusiasm and ideas. If you ever get the chance to participate in a Helen Godden workshop, do it !

How fabulous! Have you heard of Zentangle quilting? I've been tempted. Your butterfly idea would be perfect.
