My dad made me a chicken scratch top and I was wondering how to quilt it. Did you quilt around the star also?

Never heard of chicken scratching but it's a beautiful quilt! I'd like to know the chicken scratch technique too!

I love the chicken scratch you did but I just cannot seem to finish any kind of embroidery work by hand. I guess that is why I bought a cheap embroidery machine. I can sew blocks together by hand while watching TV, riding in a car or waiting in a doctor's office but I just can't seem to get into the embroidery. I do love to look and admire everyone else's work and I definitely see some gorgeous embroidery on this site.

Walmart which has fabrics have recently had all colors of gingham, not 100 percent cotton but for a craft project works well and the price at $1.50 yard is good.

How wonderful to know the name of this craft. I have several vintage aprons using this method. I always thought it was cross stitch on gingham. One of my daughters was given a dress when a baby with a border of CS but I didn't save it.

This brings back memories of my Grandmother. She always made aprons with this on them. She did a pansy design with this technique. I still have one to remember her with, since she passed away several years ago. Thanks for the memories.

I have done some aprons in chicken scratch but never thought of doing a quilt. Great idea and it is going to be beautiful. Love it.
