I have the guitar strings sewn on.... so now I'm ready to finish this quilt.
First, I want to say thanks for all the encouragement you all gave me when you said .... just keep going. Some said not to worry about the strings not being perfectly straight.... after all it is a resemblance of a guitar, not a real guitar or a picture of a guitar. It's not perfect but I'm happy with it. I kept going and now I have all the guitar strings sewn on and am ready to add the strips of fabric for the finish. Many people made great suggestions. This quilt is for my great nephew.... and he plays guitar.
I did twist the metallic threads. That made it easier to couch the threads on. And, the thickest string is 12 threads. The thinnest string is 2 threads. I was afraid I was going to run out of thread. But, I had enough.
I have a lot of musical fabric that I will cut into strips to stitch together to finish this. I planned on putting the guitar on one side (about 1/3 of the quilt) and then the strips for the rest. But I was thinking, if my GN wants to put the quilt on his bed, the guitar would hang on one side.... But do I want the guitar in the middle? Another decision I have to make. Design principles say 1/3 - 2/3 is the way to go. That's the problem with designing quilts on your own. There are a lot of decisions to make.
So, thanks again. I'll post the finished quilt when I'm done...... hopefully before too long.

Wow, it is perfect. I love it. I would put it in the middle or on a diagonal in the middle. GN will love it and will want to use it on his bed, AND be able to see the whole thing. I think you have done a really good job. Barny

I'm with Barny. It should either be in the middle or diagonal. No boy cares what design principles say. He will only care that his friends can see his super cool guitar quilt when they walk in the room.
