    Default It's not a quilt.....but it's quilted!

I started dulcimer lessons a month ago and the instructor let me borrow her music stand for my DH to replicate. Her's had a quilted dulcimer in the top, so I had to replicate that as well. I just downloaded a free graphic and using my light box and some chalk, copied it onto the material. The pocket in the front is for extra sheet music or books.
My dulcimer, which was purchased 30 yrs. ago for my father-in-law, only came with a microfiber sheath, so I decided to upgrade it as well. I wasn't sure my DSM could handle the thickness but I first quilted the design onto Bosal foam, then quilted the minkee lining to stabilized batting, before I basted them together. I boxed the sides and added one of Sallie Tomatoes zippers on a roll, to the top and halfway around the sides, to add some depth. After sewing it all together I put a bias tape in the same outside fabric, to cover the trimmed seam allowances inside. I was very pleased with the looks, stability and padding.

You did a lovely job! I had a look at some dulcimers online to see exactly what type of instrument you are learning, very interesting!

These are fantastic! Isn’t it rewarding to be able to make something like this? I was hoping to see the dulcimer! Didn’t Grandpa Jones’ wife play one? Love it!
