This is my Guild Charity Quilt. Rather easy to put together, but I did my first FMQ on it. Figured it would be a good one to try it on. I think it turned out ok. My only problem is I am needing to get better with the binding. I just can't seem to get the same size on both sides. Any hints or suggestions?

I don't think anyone will really notice.

I thought I did, but of course, always open for suggestions. This board is so informational, I have learned a lot.

Are you saying that the binding is wider on the back than on the front? If so, I guess that would be because you start with wider binding strips than you need...or you could make your seam wider than 1/4" when you machine stitch the binding to the front.

In any case, your quilting looks great!

When I attach the binding to the front or back, I use my 1/4" foot and when I turn it to the other side, seems like there is to much on that side. Do I not leave enough sandwich part on the edge?

You could either start with narrower binding strips (what width are you using? ... 2.5 or even less works for me) OR you could stitch with a wider than 1/4" on the front. Sometimes I make a few inches of stitching using 1/4" then stop and try folding it over to see how much is turned to the back. At that point you can decide to make it 3/8" or so (test again), etc.

On the other hand, I have no problem with the binding being a little wider on the back. I assume you're hand sewing the back side?

BTW if you have a "thick" quilt (thicker batting?) you need the wider binding to wrap around.
