I agree about using oriental fabrics for OBWs. I'm doing my first OBW and I, too, thought an oriental would look great, especially with the gold touches. But I'm having the same problem you had with blending the blocks together. I hope I like mine better after I get the borders on. Please post another picture after you do your borders.
