I have this exact same Bernina setup and the black thingy is a needle changing screwdriver. Or that is at least what I call it. You use it when you change out your needles on your machine. It helps you to make sure your needles are in there tight. I use it all the time.

Wow, man how you manage to be so organized? I'm working so hard on this, but my tools are still spread elsewhere.
