    Default Orphan blocks runner

Several years ago, I made quilts for some nieces. The pattern is called orange slices and each one is applique, so very time consuming and tedious to make, as each square measures 5 inches and we're queen sized quilts. I ended up with some orphan blocks, so I made a tablerunner. I was going to do free motion quilting in the white area, but it was too difficult due to height differences between applique. It was too hard to move the foot over it. So, I did simple outlining using a walking foot, much easier and looked much better. Sometimes a project will tell us how it wants to be finished, sometimes we hear it. I have a friend who is retiring next week and this will be her parting gift.

Always nice to find a home for those 'orphans'.
Runner is very nice. I think there is just the right amount of quilting.
