This turned out great and I predict this will be the most sought after quilt for cuddling under on the sofa. The big stitch quilting is perfect for such a timeless old timey pattern as the granny square. But you moderned it up with your great fabric choices. The hand quilting is the icing on the cake and will make for a very cuddly quilt. Love the scrappy binding too.

Wow, I am always impresses and yes, surprised when we reach into the scrap bag and plunge in to use up those odds and ends. Your granny square is lovely. My eyes are not drawn to any one square or overwhelmed by any particular color. Good balance in your layout. Now, I will need to check out your tutorial so I can see how you accomplished this granny square quilt. I have plenty of scrapes to use also!

Love your tutorial. I was confused at first but now I think I could do it. Just have to remember a few things. Make nine patches and save four patches of the corner fabrics for connecting four secondary nine patches. The secondary block is made of background fabric alternated with four different fabrics from the Primary Nine patches. I think once I got that done the rest would be instinctive.

It IS instinctive once you lay it out. Just keep your design wall handy and take it one block at a time. Like I said before, this was new to me in many ways (first on point, first tutorial, and first truly scrappy), but very do-able once I got the rhythm. It was also very quick, even with the hand quilting. I'm learning not to be intimidated by new things, just break them down into logical steps and take my time. I, too, have struggled with true scrappy, but this was a fun learning experience. The fabrics that seemed hard to use became part of my favorite blocks.
