    Default Scrappy improv, Jacob's ladder-ish

    Hey all,
Here's a scrappy I just finished. It's 35 1/2 inches square and all the fabric came from my scrap pile. first pic is front and second is back. Thanks for looking,

    Rob

It's so good to use up scraps as they seem to multiply rapidly. I also like the back...makes for a reversible quilt! Thanks for sharing.

Very unique. I like the blue binding, it's a nice touch.

That's pretty cool looking. I've just heard of improv quilting for the second time, and haven't really known what it is. Can you define or describe it?

    Hey Zozee,
A quick description of Improvisational quilting would be when you don't use a pattern or are interested in seeing where the process takes you rather than starting with a set idea of what you want the quilt to look like. Some folks may set some rules or parameters to follow, others just go where the fabric takes them. The reason I consider this quilt to be an improvisational quilt is that I decided to play around with the idea of Jacobs ladder, made 4 blocks that are inspired by Jacobs ladder, then did some variations on the blocks and borders. I didn't start with a preconceived notion of exactly how the piecing was going to go. Because I started out with the idea of using a Jacob's ladder block for a jumping off point, the quilt is more structured than some of my other improv. quilts.

The back is completely improvisational. my only "rule" for it was to use fabrics that had been used in the quilt top.
