I love it!! So many subpatterns going on that keep the eyes moving around it. Beautiful.

JenniePenny, just wondering how many HSTs you had to make to create this absolutely wonderful quilt, Liberty Trees. It's always off putting for me when I see so very many HSTs in a pattern. I usually make them using the 8 at a time method, but even then, it seems overwhelming when a pattern calls for 100 or more. What method do you use for making HST's when they are needed in such large numbers? I counted 392 in just the trees alone. How large is your finished quilt?
Thanks for sharing, I am in love and inspired.

Thank you very much Wildyard. I can't say that I have a good method for HST units, because I do them in the most boring way ever. I cut my squares in half on the diagonal, and then sew a colored piece to a white piece on that bias edge. Then I square up the units. i just did them in little groupings, then put a few rows of them together to form tree bases or tree tops, then a few more groups of HST, then switched over to some four patches- never too many HST's at once.
The quilt isn't terribly large - 65 X 76, but it did feel like a large project. The bed n the photo is only full sized.

Thanks for your reply JenniePenny! I remain amazed at your quilt and your HST work!!
Are the tree HSTs made with 2.5" cuts?

As I said, I love it, love it, love it. Looks like the kodachrome strips are all different lengths, right?[/QU hi jem39, thank to you an all who like Kodachrome

I starred with an old roll of calulator tape but only had one roll. So I cmpromised ,it measured 2 1/4 inches wide so I just cut newspaper to that width. The sashing is 1.5 inchs wide. It's about 72 inches square. I think what makes the strips look dif length is the few black pieces in the strips.
When I want to sew but don't feel like following a pattern, I sew on the old adding machine tape too. I showed my husband your quilt and we both love it!
