Default The Star Trek Delta Insignia Applique Test Block

I know I've been away for a while. How about seeing an example of a test block done by a newly purchased sewing machine. Only a little over a week sewing and it's already paid for itself!

This is a example of an idea I had for a while. The block still needs some placement adjustments, better color selections, and some proportion decisions. It will be some time before I develop this block further, but in the end it should be worth it.

I have trekkie fans in my family, too. Great start. I look forward to seeing more.

Great job and you picked the perfect background fabric for it.

Mostly I will incorporate the "Star Trek" uniform colors into the quilt. Perhaps with a space background for the main "diamond" center(s). Still in the early stages of development so not quite sure of fine details beyond the basic patchwork and colors.

Just luck there. I had some teal fabric left over from some curtains I was sewing up for the house.

Actually your're not quite too far off with the red background. I bought some red Star Trek licensed fabric from Camelot Fabrics (pictured below) a couple of years ago that was I felt was not too corny and would make a great Rag Quilt. I have been carefully gathering 100 percent cotton flannel remnants & bolt ends to finish it. Now that I have enough both fabric & time (a very-hard-to-come-by ingredient to sew/quilt anything around my house), it will be done within the next week. Don't worry, if I finish it, I will post the finished result (or at least the finished unwashed unragged one) when I construct that part.

Depending on the direction you want to take, Fandom in Stitches (mostly paper piecing) is starting a new series in January that is Star Trek theme. There are also a number of blocks that can be downloaded, and it's free.
