    Okay, so it took me about 20 minutes to cut 2 darks and 2 lights at 10 1/2" square and do all the stitching. I put the lights with the darks, sewed around the perimeter of one set, then did the 9-patch as per the directions. the HST ended up being 13 1/2" square. The 9 patch is 9 1/2" approx. I didn't starch but should have. The muslin was a little stretchy. The HST's were no problem to stitch on the bias; even though my centers are not good. Again, should have starched everything.

    So my concensus is this. Yes, they are easier and faster; and will definitely use those methods in the future. I was concerned about sewing the HST's on the bias but find that not a problem. I am not so afraid of HST's any more.

    Nice job on your blocks. I absolutely LOVE the calico. I have the hardest time finding patterns like that around where I live.

    Go to tutorials in the main menu and look up magic 9-patch.
