Default Thanks to everyone for your help

I had asked for help with machine selection. So many gave me great ideas and help. I ended up buying a Janome Mod 50 new for a little over $200. It's been great for my grandsons, has speed control, start/stop button for youngest to sew, and some decorative stitches. Just what we needed to get them involved.
Here are the first pillows made: he added a black border and purple back, and gave it to his girlfriend

His twin made this one for himself.

Their 6 year old brother made this one, they all took turns stitching on a different strip. He picked out his design, fabric and all himself. He obviously likes reds and blacks and stripes.

All 3 had fun picking fabrics and designs. Hopefully we'll get some quilts started this Wednesday.

Thanks for for all your input. This has been fun!

Sounds like you got the perfect machine! The boys did a great job and seem to have a good sense of color too.

Wonderful! I think everyone should learn to sew! They won't understand now, but they'll be grateful to know how to do it when the need arises. I also think that everyone needs to know the basics of cooking and cleaning. Some skills just aren't taught anymore, but we never outgrow our need to know them.

This is so awesome! So great to see young children taking up the challenge of learning a new skill and succeeding so well. High fives to your grandsons.

What a nice thing to do with your grandsons! Their pillows are great. In addition to sewing skills, they are also developing an eye for color and design.

What an awesome fun way to spend time with your grandchildren while teaching them valuable life lessons.
Hard work, dedication, follow-through, attention to detail, giving something away that you've spent your time and love making breeds empathy and kindness...they are all going to grow up to be wonderful individuals and it is great to think that you've had a hand in that! You win the Grandmother of the Year award already in March! =)
