    Default Slicing onions...

I just saw a TicToc video where they peeled an onion, stuck a fork in the bottom of the side of the onion and then used a peeler to cut back and forth to slice the onions in thin slices. It was amazing to watch. I'll try to find the website for this and then edit this message. Is putting a website on here against the rules? Just checking.

    Here is the website:

Great idea. No chance of cutting yourself, or getting your hand full of onion odor, which I hate. Thanks for sharing..

I also use the mandolin with the safety vegetable holder. As for getting rid of onion odour on your hands, rub a stainless steel spoon or fork with your hands under cold running water. It has to be stainless steel tho--not Grandma's antique silverware!

Thanks for that tip, Ginger. I'd never heard of that.

GingerK, I do that to get rid of the odor of onions, only I don't bother getting out a spoon. I just rub the kitchen faucet, which is stainless steel, while I wash my hands. I learned to do that many years ago when I worked in a hotel kitchen.
