Default Sticky Rice To Soak or Not to Soak

    Hi everyone!
Hubby's birthday is today. He requested... pork chops and sticky rice wth bbq sauce. Just wanted to get a feel from other if you soak your rice before cooking it. Thanks in advance for your input!

Nope, I never soak it. It sticks together great.

Different types of rice behave differently. My husband from the Midwest didn't really recognize Seattle rice, the standard around here is usually more like Calrose cooked in a Japanese way which is sticky and not rolling around like loose grains as he was used to.

You typically cook it starting with cold water, 1 part rice to 2 parts water. Bring to a boil, stir for the last time, put on the lid and then leave on the on low for about 15 minutes, then take it off the heat. If you want it to be less sticky, stir it at this point and then let it sit 5 more minutes.

I've had to go low carb and don't get much rice any more but I love it. We would typically have 3-4 different varieties for different styles of dishes.

Just an update... I made the rice he requested and soaked it prior to cooking. Since he wanted it drowning in bbq sauce, I was not inclined to "taste it." I also made Mexican and Basmati rice for that day. It was a good day for sure!
