I like the looks of doing them this way! Might have to get me one of these rulers, sure makes it look easy! Thanks for sharing!

Couldn't bear thinking of making all those circles when I did a Dresden wallhanging so I purchased small doilies. Works for me and adds a bit of flair to the piece.

The ruler was around $7.00 at the LQS....only need one -- can do a blade from 1" to 8" (I might try the 1" one -- that would be interesting!!!)

Seems like you'd have to finish off the inside circle of the plate in order to use the doilies....??????? I'd think raw edges would show thru. But a CUTE idea!

Ruler sounds interesting, thanks for the info! I like the idea of playing with smaller ones too!

Thanks for the Tutorial! I copied and pasted it into a Word document so I could print it out and put it in my binder. I've been collecting 1930s fabric to learn how to do one of these gorgeous quilts.

What I loved most about your design was how you used similar colors together instead of random prints. I believe I liked that better than the old fashioned way of just using anything. Also loved the yellow sashing.

So, is your background square you appliqued the plate to 6 1/2" unfinished? Your quilt is beautiful.

    No -- the background I appliqued to WAS about 10" ---- I cut and cut --- darn -- now it's 8 1/2" (before the 1/4" seams)
