    Other than the home improvement store where do you get your sand for the weighted pin cushion area? K

    Silica sand can be found at most craft stores, I get mine from Michaels craft store, they call it "sand" .........., but it is probably silica sand.

    or my husband would bring me home some from work, they purchased it in big drums - you only need just a bit more than 1 cup.....so a small package should do it -

    silica sand is very very tiny glass beads and a lot of mechanical shops use it for glass beading vehicle parts in their cleaning process) He is a heavy duty mechanic and they work on very large equipment.

    Thanks for the tutorial. I purchased one of these and could never find a pattern to make one. The band that held mine open broke so I cut a rim of a used bleach bottle (our something stiff like that) and put that in the rim area. It holds it open very nicely now.
