Default Fabric covered case repair Question

Hi, I've done some searches, but couldn't find any info.
I have a 1956 Singer 99K, which sews wonderfully. My problem is the case.
It's not the bentwood version, but the more 'modern' wood covered with something. Canvas maybe? The glue joints have come loose, and the locking hardware needs to be tightened up a bit. Fortunately, there's no damage to the wood so the glue up will be no problem but I would like to replace the exterior fabric, which is badly frayed.
What fabric should I use? What's the best way to adhere it to the wood? It looks like after the original cover was applied, there was a coating (shellac???) what would you suggest?
Thanks for any info or links you can provide.

I've not done it, but I would look for information on recovering a Featherweight case. They are similar in that both are wood probably covered with a vinyl type fabric.

I'd love to see a picture of your case and machine.

Thanks, Mindless, I'll go take a look. I'll post a photo of the finished product.
OurWorkbench, thanks for these links. Looks like this should give me a good start.
